BINDER D3 is a dispersion containing 52% polyvinyl acetate, to use as single-component water resistant binder, of class D3. The product, when applied in its pure state, complies with European standards EN 204 concerning Class D3, which require a particularly high resistance level against humidity and water. The main characteristics of the product are:
- High water resistance (class D3, EN 204)
- Excellent bonding power on hard, solid and exotic woods, with high percentage of removed surface
- It satisfies different hot and cold bonding needs, also between woods and plastic laminate sheets.
- Its quick adherence allows use also on fast production lines.
- Quick adherence = 45 kg/cm² in 5 minutes
- Final bonding power = 190 kg cm² (ASTM)
- Minimum film formation temperature = + 5ºC
- Open time (Open time on beech) = 15 minutes
- Brookfield viscosity (mPa.1) = 16,000
- Hot pressing = 80ºC – 3-4 minutes
BINDER D3 forms a thin clear film, which completely prevents the formation of rust on metal components. It does not extract colouring agents or tannins from the wood and can be re-coated with any type of paint. BINDER D3 does not contain solvents and does not release any harmful or inconvenient vapours. In normal conditions of use, it is completely safe for workers and does not require the adoption of particular safety equipment.
METHODS OF USE
BINDER D3 must be applied in a thin and even layer, trying not to exceed the recommended dose and considering that the best results are obtained with a quantity of product equal to 130 grams per square metre of surface. The minimum film forming temperature (> 3ºC) must be respected, which must keep into account the ambient temperature as well as the temperature of materials. The 15-minute Open time on beechrepresents an advantage in order to satisfy most requirements. For particular situations, the Open Time on Beech can be extended by simply diluting the product with water.
The product should be stored at a temperature between +5 and 40°C.
Binder D3 can be made compliant with the requirements foreseen for Class D4, according to EN 204 standards, by adding BINDER AD catalyst (code K0090500).
